Essential Products for a Newborn

06th Oct 2014

Preparing for your first-born is definitely a challenge. There is a ton of information out there about all of the products that you need and it can seem really overwhelming.

pamSo, I am here to help you figure out which companies are just really good at marketing and which products you actually will need for the first few weeks.

  1. Newborn Diapers: This one is a given, whether you decided on cloth or disposable. However, there are a number of brands to choose from. Different brands fit each baby differently and it will take time to find the perfect fit for your new bundle of joy. My most important suggestion when it comes to diapers is to use coupons and really check around for the best prices. These will become one of your biggest expenses as a new parent.
  2. Side Snap Shirts: When it comes to clothing for your baby, having a diverse selection is important, which is why I find these Gerber Side-snap shirts vital. Onsies are really easy to come by but two-piece outfits are usually pretty limited. Stock up on shirts like this. I promise it will be worth it!
  3. NoseFrida SnotSucker: This might sound disgusting but it’s essential. The hospital will give you a bulb but trust me when I say that this works so much better.
  4. A Bouncer Seat: There is basically an unlimited amount of options when it comes to a bouncer seat. The most important thing to consider when looking for one is safety. Next, is price. This Fisher-Price Deluxe Bouncer has worked perfectly for me. I can eat breakfast and maybe get a little bit of laundry done while my little one relaxes in the bouncer.
  5. Moby Wrap: Strollers and baby carriers are a must but I guarantee you won’t be disappointed in the Moby Wrap. I love it because my baby stays warm and happy and I don’t have to drag out the stroller. It’s perfect for short walks and when you don’t plan on being out too long.

This is a pretty short list but I promise you that my husband and I would have survived the first week perfectly fine with just the items listed above. Keep in mind that the hospital also sends you home with an array of items like blankets, diapers and wipes.

What do you consider to be must have items for the first few weeks? Leave your thoughts and suggestions in the comment section below!
